After
cleaning, the connecting rods go to the Rod Department. Here each
rod is inspected. All thrust surfaces are cleaned. All rod caps are
angle cut and the rods are resized to within .0002 out-of-round to
OEM factory specifications.
For rods using pin bushings; all bushings are replaced and pin-fitted
to size (pin bushings are bored rather than honed to assure alignment
with the crank end).
Connecting rods are then weighed, both by reciprocating end and total
rod weight. Rods are put in sets of not more than four grams variance
per set. Rods are stamped for identification by set and receive a
final cleaning. The pistons and rods are assembled using a gas heater,
checked for twist and bend, straightened if needed, and then go to
the assembly room. |
